A south Evanston staple on Main Street with a deep-rooted community feel, named for the Dostoevsky novel and beloved by NU students and locals alike.
“Brothers K has the lived-in soul of a true neighborhood coffeehouse. Wood-paneled walls, mismatched tables, and a steady mix of students hammering on laptops alongside retirees reading the paper. Coffee is reliable, atmosphere is the draw.”
Studied for the bar exam here for three months. Outlets everywhere, and they don't kick you out.
New ownership since late 2024 has kept the vibe intact. Glad they didn't change anything.

Coffee shops can be a bit overwhelming at times and Brothers K is far from overwhelming. Warm and friendly even on the coldest of Midwest days. They serve great coffee and make a delicious Cortado. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and even asked me about my day as I waited for my bagel to toast. My wife and I sit for a few hours, talk and do some work occasionally When the weather is warm we take full advantage of there outdoor seating on the corner! Brothers K is a charming, friendly and welcoming all in one. Can’t wait to solidify my status as a regular!
This is the best coffee shop in Evanston. I loved the Horchata cold brew, but the selection of food, especially donuts makes this my go-to. The staff is so kind and happy, Christiana served me today and brightened my entire day!
Great caffe latte, tasty ham and cheese croissant, unfriendly service. The premises are warm and inviting with a nook for more private conversations away from main space and ordering line. A large bookcase holds games and books that invites one to linger and enjoy community as many were doing. Large windows create nice light even in winter. The staff was unfriendly, bordering on surly unless when speaking with each other. The barista did open up when I shared I was visiting from San Francisco and someone had recommended their establishment; I even think they may have smiled. Onto the coffee. Rich crema, great beans and powerful aromas delivered everything a coffee aficionado could desire. The artistry was exceptional - a beautiful micro landscape of foam and caramelized arabica unrivaled by other baristas. It almost felt bad having to disrupt the early morning coffee canvas. It’s unfortunate the poor service detracts from the overall experience. Seems easy enough to fix and everyone would be happier (visit Dollop 2 blocks away for exceptional service and baked goods). I plan to visit K Brothers again and will adjust my ratings as appropriate.
This review is quite overdue since I’ve been a customer of brothers k for over 20 years! This independent coffee shop is quite spacious and there’s plenty of seating, both inside and out, though it can sometimes be all occupied. It has a bit of a hippy vibe with a mix of chair and table design styles and it looks like they are currently updating and replacing the older more worn out decor, including wallpaper and signage, and the refresh is very welcome. The coffee offerings are delicious and made very well, and the customer service is kind and friendly. One of their current fall specials is a cardamom rose latte and it was wonderful with oat milk with just the right amount of sweetness without being overly sweet. Brothers k has many regular customers that come for the coffee and the relaxed vibe. Please join us; it has my 5 stars review and recommendation! *****
My favorite cappuccino in Evanston. The vibe is always chill and the ambient noise is the perfect amount where one person can be reading a book and the next table over could be talking with each other and no one is disturbed. The pastries are always good and the folks behind the counter are always super friendly. The ideal neighborhood spot.
